Saturday May 29, 2010 at 7:00p.m.
Washington, D.C.

HEART OF THE SEA: Kapolioka'lehukai (US, 2002, 57 min.)
A film about the life of the championship Hawaiian surfer Rell Kapolioka'ehukai Sunn, who carved the way for women in a sport dominated by men, and became an activist cancer survivor and an inspiring hero to Hawai'i's Native community and surfers everywhere.
Directed by: Lisa Denker and Charlotte Lagarde.

Preceded by the short film: HAKU INOA: To Weave a Name (Canada, 2009, 12 min.) The filmmaker's curiosity about the meaning of her enigmatic Hawaiian name leads to a journey of healing family relationships shaped by a mother's mental illness, and brings up questions about the cultural identities of "on-island" and "off-island" Native Hawaiians.

The Mitsitam Cafe will be offering dinner items between 5:00p.m.-6:30p.m.
Kid friendly choices are available.

The event was held on May 29. Please watch for upcoming Dinner and a Movie events at the NMAI!
